About Us

Hi! My name is Amanda, and I’m the owner and baker of Bear’s Bakery. We are an at-home cottage bakery with operations in Maryland and Virginia. Opened in the summer of 2023, Bear’s Bakery specializes in pound cakes, banana bread, cookies, and bars.

Bear’s Bakery is a combination of two of the most beloved things in my life: my cat and baking. I’ve been baking since college and have been inspired not only by my love of sweets and bread but also by watching my mom bake during my childhood. Nothing was better than coming home from school to a mouth-watering pastry or cookie!

My cat, nicknamed "Bear," is not only the bakery mascot, logo inspiration, and head of operations but also my best friend and fluffy companion. You’ll frequently hear me talking about him, and while we don’t make any cat products, he always gets a sniff of the new ideas I’m thinking up. Don’t worry, he doesn’t eat any of it (he’s picky!) nor does he get close to any of the ingredients, equipment, or products.

I’ve always loved baking for friends and family, trying new recipes, and inventing new ideas in the kitchen. I finally pulled the trigger and opened my own business after constantly hearing friends tell me how much they love my desserts. I opened Bear’s Bakery to share this passion with the local community.

My favorite item will always be the banana bread. It holds a special place in my heart because I grew up eating my mom’s homemade banana bread, which is the secret family recipe that my banana bread is based on, with just a few small tweaks of my own. Of course, being Asian-American, I also like to throw in some Asian inspiration in my baking as well as flavors I grew up loving, like Matcha, Lemon Yuzu, and Cinnamon.
